The Scarlet Macaw Conservation program at Ocean Ranch Reserve is a collaborative partnership with The Eco Preservation Society, the Costa Rica Ministry of Environment (MINET) and ICE, the Costa Rican national energy and telecommunications company. The Scarlet Macaw biological corridor project which has been sanctioned by the Costa Rican government and encompasses thousands of hechtares from Playa Hermosa to the central valley of Costa Rica. The primary thrust is to reestablish the natural habitat along the river that bisect the property and steep sloped areas that were previously degraded by agricultural activity. The initial thrust is to plant 40,000 native species trees to kick off this significant reforestation effort. In addition, the program includes artificial nesting structures for Macaw and other bird species in addition to permaculture gardening initiative as part of our sustainability program. Ocean Ranch Nature Reserve is located on the central pacific coast of Costa Rica adjacent to Costa Rican’s newest and most dynamic eco adventure park, Ocean Ranch Park. Situated adjacent to one of the most mature examples of old grown primary rainforest on the entire central pacific, Ocean Ranch Reserve is home to some of the most intense biodiversity in the region, including a resident population of scarlet macaws. Ocean Ranch Reserve is located just a 3 miles (6 KM) south from world famous Playa Hermosa, one of Costa Rica’s premiere surfing destinations. Ocean Ranch is just 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio, 80 Minutes from the Capital City of San Jose and just 15 minutes from vibrant town of Jaco. Ocean Ranch is easy to get to from anywhere in Costa Rica.
